The red pastel works on paper are inspired by personal and aesthetic history, and philosophies of aspirations.

Beginning in late 2016, the “red polygon” drawings were conceived as a continuous, life-long series. Monochromatic, and often abstract, the artist deliberately chose to limit his palette, medium and forms. They are executed with pastels on both artist paper and office letter head.

The drawings integrate red crayon rubbings taken from the interior and exterior architectural facades of a family-owned building. By restricting color schemes, media and forms, one finds infinite varieties for outcomes.

Employing the same monochromic and medium techniques, Sanchez recently began work on a body of large-scale drawings. They incorporate spatial perspective and historical references to his social art projects. Designed as an expansive, and ongoing series, the new works evolve from his modest scale red pastels and quote similar forms.
